Subject: LEGAL NOTICE FOR RECOVERY OF DOWRY ARTICLES, MAINTENANCE, AND ARREARS OF DOWER (MAHR)
Dear Sir,
Under instructions from and on behalf of my client, Mst. [Client Name] D/o [Father’s Name], resident of [Address], I hereby serve you with the following legal notice:
- Marital History: That my client was legally married to you on [Date] in [City] according to Muslim Rites and ceremonies. A copy of the Nikah Nama is available for record.
- Dowry Possession: At the time of marriage, my client’s parents provided extensive dowry articles (Jahez), including furniture, electronics, jewelry, and household items valued at approximately PKR [Amount]. These articles are currently in your illegal possession at your residence in [Area].
- Financial Neglect: That for the past [Number] months, you have willfully neglected and failed to provide any maintenance or financial support to my client (and minor children, if applicable), which is your prime legal and religious obligation under the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961.
- Unpaid Dower: That as per Column 13/14 of the Nikah Nama, a dower amount of PKR [Amount] was fixed as “Prompt Dower,” which remains unpaid to date despite repeated verbal demands.
- Current Status: Due to your cruel behavior and failure to fulfill marital obligations, my client has been residing at her parental home since [Date]. You have made no effort to reconcile or return her lawful belongings.
DEMAND: You are hereby called upon through this final notice to:
- Return all Dowry Articles and personal belongings listed in the attached schedule within seven (07) days of receipt of this notice.
- Pay the Arrears of Maintenance amounting to PKR [Amount] and the Unpaid Dower of PKR [Amount].
- Fulfill your marital obligations and resume conjugal life with dignity, failing which my client shall seek judicial separation.
WARNING: Should you fail to comply with these demands within the stipulated period, I have strict instructions to initiate both Civil and Criminal proceedings against you in the competent Family Courts of Rawalpindi/Islamabad for the recovery of dower, maintenance, and articles, as well as proceedings under the Section 406 of the Pakistan Penal Code for Criminal Breach of Trust regarding her property. You shall be held responsible for all litigation costs and consequential damages.

Strategic Next Steps
- Schedule of Articles: Ensure you attach a detailed list of every item (furniture, gold, electronics) to this notice.
- Proof of Service: Always send this via Registered Post A.D. and keep the receipt; this receipt is the primary evidence needed if you eventually file a suit in the Family Court.
- Alternative Notices: If you specifically need a notice for Talaq (Divorce) or Restitution of Conjugal Rights, the wording changes significantly to comply with Section 7 of the MFLO 1961.
